Show Off Your Chicken Contest Winner-Oct. 2018-Archive
Announcing the winner of our October 2018 contest. Kara Kalous submitted this photo of her son and his pet chicken. The story about this photo is just as fascinating as the photo itself.
Story about this photo:
"My daughter’s class at school learned about chickens and when they were done learning about these baby chickens students could bring them home to keep. So we brought to home and unfortunately, they both died. I didn’t want this to be a horrible experience for my children so I went to the farm store and bought two more chickens. I bought 2 Rhoads island red chicks. One of those chickens died, I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know what I was doing wrong but Betty stayed alive. The plan was to keep Betty until she got big and then give her away but Pete who is 5 years old grew very fond of Betty. Betty seemed to grow close to him as well. This picture was taken on Monday May 7, 2018 at 6:12pm. Pete and Betty had not seen each other since Sunday morning May 6th. When we got home from school Pete got Betty out and brought her outside. Instead of running around Betty immediately jumped on Pete’s lap and set there. She missed him and he missed her; they both just looked at each other. I quickly took this picture with my iPhone X and send it to my mom, aunts and Pete’s grandma. I didn’t even really look at the picture. The next day my mom posted the picture on Facebook and people loved it. I started actually looking at the picture and realized how awesome it was. Then my Aunt Jackie commented “love has no barriers.” That really hit my heart when I read that comment . There are many barriers in the world that cause fights, wars, hurt, misunderstandings, etc….. All these barriers come from the mind in forms of communication, judgment, etc…. but love has no barriers. Love comes from the heart. Love will last forever and never fade away. Love can soften a hard shell, or harden clay. Love can heal a broken heart. This world needs to be led with love from the heart not from minds of men. This picture reminds me of the love God has for us and His love will never fade away or change" (Kara Kalous).
