This chart lists some of the most common sickness, illnesses and diseases chickens could get. This chart contains a list of symptoms and links to possible treatments for each. Keep in mind that chickens who get one illness often get several more if the first one is left untreated which is why it is very important to isolate sick birds away from your flock. Some chicken illnesses are air borne so you do not want to put your quarantined sick bird in the same coop or same room as your well birds. This chart is not in alphabetical order at this time. Once you quarantine the sick bird you should check each chicken individually for signs of illness as well. Identify what type of illness your chicken may have using the chart below. If you are unsure or do not see the symptoms your birds have you should contact your local poultry and livestock veterinarian for treatment options. It is vitally important to clean and disinfect everything in your chicken coop including the dirt with a high quality cleaner/disinfectant on a weekly or monthly basis, as well as, after you have removed sick birds from the flock in a attempt to prevent the spread if it is contagious. I use Tek-Trol Disinfectant Cleaner Concentrate because this is the one many veterinarians use, cleaning and disinfecting can be done in one operation, and it can be used in kennels, poultry barns, and in breeder and laying operations, in backyard chicken coops, and on the soil. It is not flammable and dissolves in hot or cold water without losing it's disinfectant properties. Note: I may receive a small commission on eligible purchases but I am recommending this product based on the fact that I use it and it is an excellent choice for poultry house cleaning and disinfecting.
