The Sablepoot was not named for its color but rather they were named for their feathered vulture hocks.
They are generally calm, can be quite friendly and enjoy chattering to get your attention. Excellent choice for a house-pet or backyard chicken.
Origin: Great Britain, Germany, and Netherlands. The exact year of their origin has not been determined but it has been said that they were spotted hundreds of years ago as documented in some European records.
Roosters: Friendly, calm, protective.
Hens: Go broody easily, are smaller than the rooster, slightly less colorful, smaller comb and tail feathers. Will go broody after the first year of age.
Eggs: Small white or off white in color. Approx. 1 in. diameter. Lay one egg per day after they reach maturity.
Primary use: eggs
Egg production (annual): 160
Temperament: Friendly, Calm
Recognized variety: Golden Neck, Blue, Cuckoo, Partridge, Gray.
