How to Make a Nest Box Out of a Tidy Cat Litter Box
It's a shame to waste those nice Tidy Cat boxes. We make nest boxes for our hens out of Tidy Cat litter boxes and we thought we would share how we do it with you. We like to recycle things here at Chicken Heaven On Earth rescue sanctuary for chickens because recycling is good for our environment and because we are working on a shoestring budget.
We have a friend who rescues cats and she uses a lot of kitty litter. We asked her what she was doing with the boxes and she was nice enough to save all of her boxes for us. We really did not know what we were going to do with them but we knew we would think of something and we did. These little nest boxes are easy to clean, (wash with dish soap and hot water, and dry in the sun), they are comfortable enough to fit an average sized hen, mite resistant (just add a sprinkle DE (diatmaceous earth) to your bedding when you refill it and the best part is our hens love their new nest boxes. It's a free nest box!
