Ornamental chicken breeds are primarily obtained for their unusual and unique beauty and are not generally used for egg production or meat. Ornamental breed chickens are usually more expensive than Standard chicken breeds. Many breeders raise them because they can make more money from selling them, However, there are more responsibility and higher maintenance costs associated with breeding high quality ornamental chicken breeds, such as feeding them more expensive show bird feed, vitamin supplements, regular grooming, separate coops, and coops designed to prevent them from damaging their feathers, lowering or eliminating roosts or perches to protect their feet from possible damage, and keeping feathered feet breeds from damaging their foot feathers.
