My answer would be no, Silkies are not good egg layers but they do go broody easily. A good egg laying hen used for egg production should lay 230 eggs or more per year. Silkie hens go broody often because they love to hatch their eggs and raise baby chicks. Going broody stops the egg laying process. Silkie eggs are very small and even a very productive Silkie hen will probably lay between 100 to 150 eggs per year. Silkie hens tend to get stressed and frustrated if you do not let them hatch their eggs.
