Flock blocks are a great way to give your chickens extra vitamins and nutrients they may need. Flock blocks should only be used as treats not as a primary food source. Your chickens will enjoy pecking away at all the goodies but may be wary of it at first. You might have to chip into the block to get them interested in it at first.
Here are some things to keep in mind if you are considering getting a flock block for your chickens:
Here are some things to keep in mind if you are considering getting a flock block for your chickens:
- Never leave flock blocks out in the rain or in any area where they can get moisture or wet because they will develop mildew which can make your birds very sick.
- Check flock blocks daily for signs of contamination such as a white substance. If flock blocks get moldy get rid of them.
- Most flock blocks are quite large and are best used for large flocks of chickens. Smaller flocks usually won't be able to finish the larger flock block before it spoils if not handled correctly. If you have a small flock select smaller flock blocks or packaged treats.
- Never leave flock blocks outside overnight as they will attract rodents and predators to your coop.
- Keep flock blocks in a cool, dry place.
