When should you wash your hands?
You should wash your hands before and after holding your chickens and before handling birds from other coops.
Proper way to wash your hands to prevent the spread of diseases and cross contamination to your flock are:
1. Use a disposable towel to turn on warm running water (as hot as you can stand it)
2. Wet your hands and arms all the way up to your elbow.
3. Apply soap and rub hands and forearms briskly for at least 30 seconds to develop a thick lather.
4. Rinse thoroughly under clean, warm running water.
5. Dry hands and forearms with a clean disposable towel.
6. Use the towel to turn off the water.
Conserve water by using a hand towel to turn off the water while sudsing your hands and forearms.
