Things Chickens Need

Chickens need chicken coops to protect them from the weather, predator's, and a place to lay their eggs,
There are many different types of starter coops available or you can build your own.
Always be sure to read the product descriptions carefully before you select a hen house or chicken coop and be sure to select the coop or hen house that is right for the size, breed and amount of chickens you have, as well as, your budget.
It is important to keep your coop clean, at a comfortable temperature, predator proof and properly ventilated.
Every chicken coop needs:
Inspect coop for cleanliness, parasite infestations, possible entrances for predators, for weak spots, holes, loose chicken wire or hardware cloth. (If you use staples to secure chicken wire or hardware cloth make sure you secure another board with screws over the top of the staples because most predators can easily pull on the wire and loosen the staples and eventually they will gain entrance to your coop. If possible, get inside your chicken coop and look around at the base, the seams, and floor for any way that a predator may be able to enter. I have squeezed into some pretty small chicken coops and found places where wood had been chewed on, holes had been dug etc. which couldn't be noticed from the outside of the coop.
Make sure that you have everything you need before you buy chickens or get them as soon as possible if you have chickens already. See Best Buys for chicken coop supplies and links to things Chickens need below.
