Questions & Answers About Hatching Eggs In an incubator
Question: When is the Hatch Stage?
Answer: The Hatch Stage happens during the last 2 or 3 days of the 21 day incubation period.
Question: Is there a point during incubation of chicken eggs that the egg turner needs to be shut off? If so when is this?
Answer: Yes. Eggs should not be turned during the last 3 to 4 days of the incubation period. This is when you transfer the eggs to a hatcher. "If a hatcher is unavailable, remove the eggs from the turner and lay the eggs in the hatching basket or place on cloth or rough paper (not newspaper) in the incubator. Make sure that the paper does not obstruct airflow, contact the water, or contact the heating element. Temperature should remain at 99.5 degrees F and increase the humidity to at least 90 degrees F wet bulb. Humidity can be increased by adding either a wet sponge or wet paper towels to increase the evaporative surface in the incubator. The chicks should start to pip within a day of the incubation period listed for the species" (Aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu., 2018).
