The beautiful Buff Catalanas are said to be of Spanish decent and even though they may not look like it there have been many rumors that some of their ancestors could have been Cochin, these beautiful birds are very hardy and have distinct and pleasant personalities. Traditionally raised as meat birds due to their thick breasts and thighs. Buff Catalanas roosters tend to be protective and good natured.
Origin: First discovered in Barcelona, Spain. Prat district in 1902. Accepted by the American Poultry Association standard in 1949.
Broodiness
Hens go broody easily and usually keep to themselves.
Color: Buff, red and reddish tones. Black tail feathers. White or light colored legs.
Cock comb: Large red single comb
Hen comb: Stands straight or may flop to one side
Cock Weight: Approx. 8 lbs.
Hen Weight: Approx. 6 lbs.
Eggs: Large, light tint, pink tint or white eggs (approx. four eggs per week)

Buff Catalanas Qualities & Temperment
Classified as a dual purpose bird for eggs and meat production. They do well in warm climates. Their temperment is lively, active, flighty and not very friendly-preferring to avoid humans as much as possible, yet they are not considered as aggressive. Perform best in a free range environment. They do not do well in confinement (Chicken breeds list, 3).
