A chicken will learn it's name and quicker than you think. If you call your chicken by name every day, several times a day your chicken will know that you are calling their name. They may tilt their head to look at you when you say their name, or make a sound to respond to you. IF you have more than one chicken-try calling each of their names out in the morning and again at night. Look at the chicken when you call their name. You will notice that each one will respond to their own name and they will learn the names of the other chickens. When you pick up your chicken for their daily inspection or to give them attention, say their name and they will learn it very quickly.

They will also learn your name if you say it when you approach them. I usually say "Mama's here" when I arrive or I will call out to them to tell them "Mama come". When they want me to come because something is wrong they will call out to me, "Mama come" without the consonants. When I arrive at the hen house they say, "Mama here" without the consonants.
Special note: If you teach your chickens their names and If one chicken is missing the other chickens will call out that chickens name if you ask them where the chicken is by using the missing chickens name.
