Step by Step Instructions On How to Make a Chicken Diaper
Instructions
- Front measurements-Measure your chicken from the top of the breast (approx. even with wings) down between the legs and all the way to the vent. Write the measurement down.
- Front pattern-Make a paper pattern for the front leaving 1 1/2 inches on the top and sides to allow for stiching. Draw around the pattern unto your material. Cut the pattern out. Note: If making the poop cup as a one piece rather than sewing the cup on separately follow the instructions for vent measurement before cutting material.
- Vent measurement-Measure the distance between 1 1/2 inch left of the vent, the vent, and 1 1/2 on the right side of the vent. (Be sure to allow enough material around the edge to sew a 1/4 inch seam.
- For the poop cup, you can measure the material to allow 3 to 6 inches depth depending on the size of your chicken and use the Vent measurement for the top width, make a cup shape that gets a bit wider as you go down, as it needs to catch the poop.
- Hem the seams on the top and sides of the front of cut material from front pattern.
- Sew a hem at the top of the poop cup.
- Sew the poop cup seams together.
- Attach elastic one to left side and one to the right side of front .
- Attach the other end of the elastic to the left and right sides of the poop cup
- Measure, cut and sew a small piece of elastic or material to go midway in between the too elastic straps (1-3 inches depending on the size of your chicken).
- Check to make sure all seams are sewn and edges are hemmed.
- Put the diaper on your chicken.
