DIY How to build a chicken tractor yourself. A chicken tractor prevents many of the illnesses chickens contract from built up feces in chicken coops because you can move it around your property so your chickens constantly have a fresh supply of grass. The birds will clear the weeds and basically lightly till the ground wherever the coop is sitting. Doing this improves the soil as chicken feces (poop) is a natural fertilizer, high in nitrogen which is great for growing plants and trees. You should not plant anything where your chicken tractor has been sitting for approximately one year. This time will give the manure time to compost into the soil. I like to plow the area after moving my chicken tractor. If you have a sturdy light weight chicken coop already you can easily turn it into a chicken tractor by putting wheels on it and adding a handle or a rope to pull it with.
