How & When to Administer Fowl Pox Vaccine to Chickens
Vaccinating chickens with the AE-poxine fowl pox vaccine prevents them from getting the field strains of the fowl pox virus. it is a embryo propagated, freeze dried, live virus vaccine administered by wing web in chickens at 8 weeks of age, at least 4 weeks before hens start laying.
How to Mix the Fowl Pox Vaccine
Tear off the aluminum seal from the vial containing the freeze dried virus.
Lift off the rubber stopper.
Remove the seal and stopper from the diluent bottle. Each diluent bottle contains 10 ml of diluent.
Pour half of the diluent into the vial containing the freeze dried virus. Replace the rubber stopper and shake the vaccine vial.
Pour the partly dissolved vaccine into the diluent bottle to mix with rest of the diluent. Replace the rubber stopper and shake vigorously until the vaccine is dissolved completely.
The vaccine is now ready to be administered to the chicken by the wing-web method.

How to Administer The Fowl Pox Vaccine to Chickens
Firmly hold the bird and spread the underside of one wing outward.
Insert the double needle applicator into the vaccine bottle, wetting or charging both needles.
Pierce the web of the exposed wing with the double needle applicator charged with vaccine.
Insert the double needle applicator into the vaccine vial again and proceed to vaccinate the next bird.

Insert the double needle applicator into the vaccine vial again and proceed to vaccinate the next bird.
During vaccination avoid hitting large blood vessels, bones and the wing muscles with the double needle applicator. Do not inject in any other site except the exposed wing web.
Examination Of “takes”Examine the site of vaccine administration for “take” at 6 - 8 days post-vaccination. A positive take showing that the vaccination was successful, is indicated by swelling or formation of a nodular lesion or scab at the site of inoculation. Swelling and scabs will disappear at about 2 weeks following vaccination. The absence of take may indicate that the birds were immune before vaccination or that improper vaccination methods were used.
Fowl Pox Vaccine CautionDo not spill or splatter the vaccine. Burn containers, unused vaccine and accessories prior to disposal. Do not over dilute the vaccine or otherwise extend the dosage. Store unopened vaccine vials at not over 45° F or 7° C. Do not vaccinate within 21 days of slaughter or 4 weeks prior to start of lay. The vaccinated chickens should not be placed on contaminated premises. All susceptible chickens on the same premises should be vaccinated at the same time. If this is not possible, then strict isolation and separate caretakers should be employed for non-vaccinated chickens. Efforts should be made to reduce stress conditions at the time of vaccine administration (Drugs.com, 2016).
Packaging
The vaccine is supplied in 10 x 1000 dose vials with diluent, product insert and wing web applicators.
Rehydrate with 10 ml of diluent. For wing web administration in chickens. For veterinary use only.

AE-Poxine is recommended for the prevention of avian encephalomyelitis (AE) and fowl pox when it is administered as directed to healthy pullets between the ages of 8 weeks and 4 weeks before the start of egg production.
- Single vial combination saves time, labor and money Directions for Administration:
Rehydrate 1 vial of this vaccine with 1 vial of diluent.
Remove aluminum seal and rubber stopper from vaccine vial and from diluent vial. Avoid contamination of the stoppers and the vials' contents.
Pour approximately one-half the diluent into the vaccine vial. Replace stopper and shake gently until contents are dissolved.
Non-Returnable product
Pour all the reconstituted vaccine back into the remaining diluent in the diluent bottle. Replace diluent stopper and gently mix. The vaccine is then ready for use.
Hold individual bird and spread wing with the underside facing upwards.
Dip the vaccinator tool into the vaccine. Take care that the channels of the needles are immersed.
Stick the vaccine-laden needles through the membrane, or web, of the wing, avoiding blood vessels, bones and wing muscles.
Attempt to use all of the vaccine from 1 vial within 1 hour after rehydrating.
Note: Some swelling may occur at the site of the puncture as early as the fourth day following vaccination. The swelling may increase during the next 5 days, and a scab may form at the site.
