Free Range

  • Debeaked with a hot bloody blade at one day old with no anesthetic.

  • Force molted (intentionally starved to shock the body into another laying cycle).

  • Violently packed into a semi and trucked hundreds of miles to an agonizing slaughter when considered “spent” (unable to keep laying eggs at a fast enough pace).

  • Denied the opportunity to live a natural life in truly humane care.

  • All of her brothers (roosters) are brutally killed as baby chicks simply because they can’t lay eggs.

How You can make a Difference in a Chicken's Life

 Consumers can help the hens and male chicks by distributing flyers, support websitesthat promotehumane treatment of animals and support fund raising activities, raise their own hens, go vegetarian or rescue ‘spent’ hens. 
If you witness this type of abuse or work at a commercial egg producing facility that operates under inhumane and unsanitary conditions, he or she should:
  • Take pictures or video if possible. Pictures and video's can be useful to prosecute the abuser.
  • Contact the local authorities and animal protection agencies. Contacting state and local officials is an appropriate way to resolve this issue. 
  • Consider becoming a vegetarian
  • Raise your own chickens Raising your own chickens will eliminate the risk of salmonella contamination, rescue unwanted rooster's, and stop hen abuse on commercial egg farms
  • Adopt or Sponsor a Chicken at a rescue facility or sanctuary. Adopting or Sponsoring a Chicken can save a rooster or hen's life and give you an enjoyable hobby which will provide hours of enjoyment, prevent the risk of contracting salmonella, and saves thousands of dollars in tax dollars used for waste management.
  • Purchase free-range eggs from reputable farms. Not all eggs labeled Free Range are from true free range egg farms. Google the farms and look at the negative as well as positive comments about the company or farm.
  • Petition State and local government to legalize backyard chickens in every city in the U.S. Petitioning government officials will prompt them to legalize backyard chickens in every city so private individuals can raise their own chickens and there will be less demand for commercial egg production. 
  • Vote to legalize raising backyard chickens in the U.S.
  • Sign the petition to legalize raising backyard chickens in the U.S.
  • Purchase items from Chicken Heaven On Earth's Shoppe and save a chicken. All proceeds go to the care and support of Chicken Heaven On Earth's Rescue Facility.
Purchasing commercial eggs produced by hens housed in battery cages and cage free systems contributes to the abuse of laying hens and roosters. If businesses and the public stop purchasing these products there will be no demand for them and this type of production will cease.
